Press release: Kelvin Green wins strategic investors for the development of intelligent district heating network control

17. January 2024

Berlin, 17.01.2024 – Kelvin Green, the Berlin-based startup in the field of digital solutions for the green transformation of district heating systems founded in early 2023, is pleased to announce that Kamstrup A/S, GEF Ingenieur AG and DnA Venture GmbH have joined the company as strategic investors. This significant partnership not only strengthens Kelvin Green’s financial base, but also brings combined expertise and resources to drive the development and commercialization of smart control solutions for district heating networks.

The partnership with Kamstrup, a leading global provider of smart metering systems and digital solutions for energy and water based in Skanderborg, Denmark, brings extensive expertise in district heating and innovative metering and control technologies. “As a global leader in smart metering, Kamstrup is pleased to join forces with Kelvin Green to drive the green transformation of district heating in Germany. Our ambition to drive the green agenda through a digital transformation of district heating aligns seamlessly with Kelvin Green’s mission. This strategic partnership brings together our extensive expertise in district heating. Together, we are committed to a future where digital solutions and services pave the way for a sustainable district heating supply in Germany and beyond,” says Tommy Hansen, Senior Vice President at Kamstrup.

The comprehensive expertise of GEF Ingenieur AG from Leimen, the leading engineering firm for the design and planning of sustainable district heating systems, will make a significant contribution to taking the technical development to the next level. “With this strategic investment, GEF is pursuing the goal of advancing the field of intelligent control of heating networks in cooperation with Kelvin Green and the other investors. We expect this area to continue to gain significantly in importance in the course of the transformation. It is therefore logical and consistent for a ‘one-stop service provider’ like GEF to become involved in this growth area, both in terms of content and financially,” says Dr. Stephan Richter, CEO of GEF Ingenieur AG.

DnA Venture GmbH is an early-stage investor focused on industrial tech. Key topics include the industrial application of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). With its expertise in intelligent control and connectivity, DnA Venture GmbH will make an important contribution to the development of interfaces between intelligent control algorithms and plant technology. “We are delighted with what the team has achieved since it was founded last year and look forward to working together in the future to drive forward digitalization and automation in the district heating market,” Dr. Dennis Küsters, Managing Director, DnA.

The strategic investors and Kelvin Green will work together to develop an intelligent control system for heat generation plants in green heating network systems. This will enable the automated, cost-efficient and reliable operation of complex heat generation systems and thus create the basic prerequisite for green district heating at competitive prices.

“The investment from Kamstrup, GEF and DnA Ventures is a milestone for Kelvin Green. We are convinced that the combined resources and expertise of these renowned companies will enable us to quickly develop and commercialize smart solutions for the district heating industry,” said Martin Bornholdt, CEO and founder of Kelvin Green.

This strategic partnership underlines the commitment of all parties to drive the heat transition and create innovative solutions to the challenges in the district heating sector. Kelvin Green looks forward to working with Kamstrup, GEF and DnA Ventures to shape the future of sustainable energy together.
